CHANDIGARH - The Panjab University will organise a mega job-fest ‘Job Fair 2011′ here for students of all 75 teaching and research departments in March 2011, it was announced here Tuesday.

According to officials, besides the 10,000-odd students passing out from the university in 2011, all other students are eligible to participate in the job-fest.

We have formed a team to make this event a big success. Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) members and faculty members from different streams are part of this team, university vice-chancellor R.C. Sobti told reporters.

To handle database of large number of students, university students have made a web-portal where students can upload their resumes. Companies can also upload their requirements, mode of short-listing, and salaries offered on the same portal, Sobti said.

The university will also offer training for interviews and group discussions.

Sobti said the focus of the fair is to bring students of arts and other non-vocational streams in the forefront.

Students from management and engineering departments always get good placements. But now we want students from other departments like Hindi, Sanskrit and Political Science to get good jobs, stated Sobti.

This job fair will be held March 4-6.

Established in 1882 in Lahore, now in Pakistan, Panjab University was relocated to its present campus in Chandigarh’s Sector 14 and 25 in 1956. It is one of the oldest universities in the country.
