WBUT Student Ragged By Seniors

SILIGURI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a condemnable incident that has sent shock waves among the students of engineering and their parents, a student of Siliguri Institute of Technology was forced to return to his home after the commencement of the new academic session. The student named Riju Ghosh was severely tortured by two senior students he was sharing his room with and the incident has pointed out the failure of the education authorities to eradicate the menace called ragging.The incident has also left the West Bengal University Of Technology officials red faced as the institute is affiliated to the entity.

The student has become traumatized and he does not want to return to the WBUT affiliated institute as he has said to the parents. The 18 year old student joined on August 9th and he hails from Bankura’s Nutangunge. His father has lodged an FIR based on the statement given by his son. Two students who tortured him for days- Aritra Bhattacharya and Kaushik Chakraborty have been accused in the FIR. The duo subjected the newbie to extreme mental as well as physical harassment for days as it has been reported. The angry father of the student told the media entities how the two senior students did inhuman torture on his son.

The student of the Siliguri Institute of Technology which is affiliated to WBUT was asked by the seniors to put up with their deeds if he wanted to study there. The enraged father of the student said that he is not sure now if his son should be sent there. The Vice-Chancellor of WBUT Sabyasachi Roy said that action would be taken against the accused and the institute management if they are proved guilty.
