Corporal Punishment In Schools On Way Out

KOLKATA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The education system in India has many flaws and one of them is Corporal punishment in schools. While this was viewed as a necessary part of the education system until a few years back, the public opinion against this system which may lead to fatal consequences has been growing. The reports of students becoming physically handicapped after being beaten and abused by teachers in various schools has also sent shock waves among the educationists and parents. The government is also thinking of bringing ban on Corporal punishment in the entire education system. Of late social activist and serious actor Rahul Bose has taken up the cause and at a recent event held at Kolkata he talked at length on the issue.

Rahul Bose said at the event that took place at Riverside School that he is totally against the draconian system and Corporal punishment in schools should be done away with. The actor who is known for doing substantial and offbeat role in movies also said that this should be abolished from every school in the country. According to his opinion, education should be used to empower children and not bog them down with rules and punishments.

Rahul Bose drew applause for his views on Corporal punishment in schools when he came to launch the “‘Design for Change School Contest-2010″ at the Riverside School. He also said that the education system needs revamp to make learning an enjoyable experience for the kids. The kids should also be taught about social evils and the ways to eliminate them he added.
